FAQs

Q. Why silk?

Silk is the strongest of all natural fibres.  Being a natural fibre, it breathes – making it warm in winter and cool in summer.

Silk has wonderful properties of movement and has a luxurious sheen.  This sheen is created by the reflected light on its smooth, triangular fibres.  Silk not only looks luxurious it is beautiful to wear. Many of our clients comment on this aspect of the garments.  Not only do the garments look beautiful, Living Silk garments feel beautiful too.

Q. What is the best way to clean and care for silk?

Caring for your silk garments depends on what you have purchased.

Those garments made in 2-comb silk are hand washable.  This includes most of the Classics collection.  When washing 2 comb silk, always wash in cool (tepid) water.  Use a soft detergent, such as Softly.  Never use hot water or harsh detergent.

If your garments have intricate designs, silk organza, lace or beading, please dry clean only.

Garments may be ironed on the ‘silk’ setting.  All irons have ‘silk’ on their thermostat.

Living Silk accept no responsibility if garments are handled outside our recommended care instructions.

Q. Why is the colour of my garment different from the website image?

All garments are reproduced as accurately as possible, however a slight variation may occur in colour.

The weight of the yarn and the type of weave will naturally affect how silk dye flows and the techniques which can be used successfully.  The variances occur when dyeing the different weaves – plain, organza and satin.

Please note that colours of images in our catalogue or on the Internet may appear different to the actual garment due to colour calibration in the printing process and different screen monitors of computers.
